Further Information
WALKING OR CYCLING THE ROUTE

The entire pilgrimage is about 14 miles, which will take approximately 5 hours at walking pace, or 1.5 hours by bicycle. The route meanders through beautiful countryside including Pooley Country Park, a substantial stretch of peaceful canal, the historic Tamworth Castle Grounds, and past the woods and fields of Hopwas. The route also by necessity traverses several busy main roads, but the entire journey has footpath.

PILGRIMAGE MARKERS

Every stop along the route has a special pilgrimage marker: the perfect place to take a selfie to show that you have completed the route! Please take lots of pictures and share to social media so more people can discover the St. Editha's Way for themselves!

THE PILGRIM'S HANDBOOK
A special Handbook has been produced for the journey with details about the landmarks on the route as well as other tips and information. The handbook may be collected from Polesworth Abbey or Lichfield Cathedral, mornings from 10am.

When you have completed the route, you may present the Handbook to the front desk of Lichfield Cathedral during visiting hours to receive a special stamp and certificate to prove that you have successfully completed the St. Editha's Way.
REFRESHMENTS

Tamworth, about halfway along the route, is an ideal place to stop en route for a rest and restorative break! St. Editha's Church, Tamworth has a lovely cafe selling home-made cakes and organic, speciality coffee (open every day 10am - 2pm). For something more substantial we recommend the Tudor House Cafe in Tamworth, one of the oldest buildings in the town and a delightful place for lunch. Lichfield also has plenty of delicious options for refreshments.

ENTRY FEES AND DONATIONS
Every stop along the route is free to enter with the exception of Tamworth Castle, for which entry fees apply (see website for details - www.tamworthcastle.co.uk).

Making a donation at every church is a kind thought and would be much appreciated to help keep these incredible buildings open for all to enjoy.

OTHER SIGHTS

Whilst the pilgrimage route centres around historic churches, there are other sights along the way. Alvecote Priory, a derelict ruin, is an atmospheric place to take a break; St. Rufin's Well, in Tamworth Castle grounds, is an evocative reminder of Anglo-Saxon sainthood; likewise St. Chad's Well in the churchyard of St. Chad, Lichfield.
